Breathwork can mean active, conscious, or mindful breathing used to help access the parasympathetic nervous system. This can lead to decreased stress, decreased blood pressure, and overall improved well-being. 4-7-8 breathing, box breathing, alternate nostril breathing all fit this description. Therapeutic Breathwork uses a conscious, connected, circular breath to tap into deep healing. In this type of Breathwork, you will be coached to use a specific breath pattern, combined with the support of music and possible touch while a practitioner gently supports you. It is a healing modality that can be done individually with a facilitator or in a guided group. This type of conscious, connected breath is a way to access deep patterns or energy in your body that might otherwise feel stuck. It is a somatic or body therapy that can access our subconscious to allow for the release of trauma, healing of undesired patterning, exploration of deeper self-love, and integration of healing. It is a powerful way to learn more about yourself using only your breath. Your breath helps you access and connect to your body - these are your tools - breath and body. Sessions are never the same. Some sessions might feel like you are traveling to a state of non-ordinary consciousness, and some sessions might feel mostly relaxing and integrative. Whatever shows up, it is an opportunity to be with yourself in a safe, supported container, with the ultimate goal of knowing yourself and loving yourself more deeply.
This form of therapy can be a catalyst for change. It can help the breather become aware of unexpressed stress, emotions, and trauma, and it can be a beautiful and benevolent way to release trauma. In my own life, it has helped me better understand myself, my relationships, and my connection to Earth and to Source. It has provided me with more peace, ease, and freedom in my everyday life. After my first session, I was blown away by the depth of access to emotions, and I knew this was a path to healing for me. It has helped heal my mind, body, and spirit in ways that modalities like traditional therapy could not.
